Highlights from 2007

On June 7, 2007, the Big Fish Ball took place at one of the most unique venues in the City — the downtown riverwalk. The sold out event was Friends of the Chicago River’s second annual gala fundraiser and exceeded our income goal by over 20%!

Unique river-centric spectacles, including an on-the-water performance by Taiko drummers and a “fish liberation,” were the centerpieces of our one-of-a-kind gala. Other highlights included elegant dining, tours of Friends’ museum at the Michigan Avenue Bridge, and an appearance and address by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. Our backdrop was the remarkable Main Stem of the Chicago River and spectacular City skyline.

Some of Chicago’s most prominent and diverse leaders in the civic and corporate communities were among the 350 guests who attended the event. Presenting sponsor Ozinga along with 31 additional sponsors played a key role in the Big Fish Ball’s success.

“Friends of the Chicago River should be commended for their leadership and vision in preserving our urban treasure, the river. The Boeing Company was pleased to join with other friends to support this year’s Big Fish Ball. Everything from the unique riverwalk location to Mayor Daley’s passionate address to the fun ‘fish liberation’ made the event special. Congratulations on an exceptional event!”

“Our company was delighted to sponsor the Big Fish Ball again in 2007. LaSalle Bank’s guests were treated to a unique and elegant event including dinner along the Chicago River, tours of the Bridgehouse Museum, and a dramatic performance by Taiko drummers from a boat on the river. Our thanks go to Friends of the Chicago River and all its supporters for helping preserve one of our city’s natural treasures.”
