Sounds of the Chicago River

(Third in a series of six) Friends partners with the Fifth House Ensemble and the American Indian Center to present a series of virtual workshops and a performance of Sounds of the Chicago River using Deep Listening to reconnect ourselves to the natural world through sound. Together, we use Deep Listening as a tool for observation and increased awareness of our environment, integrated with Native practices that explore the interconnectedness of humans, wildlife, plants, and place.

Wildlife Monitor Training

Friends is restoring habitat for three river-dependent species - ospreys, bats, and turtles - and we need your help. Sign up for one of our spring training sessions to become a Volunteer Wildlife Monitor. No experience necessary!

We are asking volunteers to commit to at least one habitat location and monitor at least twice per month during the breeding season (until August).
