Calumet is My Backyard (CIMBY)
Calumet is My Backyard is a joint program of The Field Museum's Action Science Center and its Youth Conservation Action. CIMBY engages high school students and teachers in Chicago’s Calumet region in educational activities and experiences that connect classroom learning with stewardship opportunities, creating the next generation of environmental leaders.
The Centennial Volunteers program is a partnership between Friends of the Chicago River, the Forest Preserves of Cook County, Friends of the Forest Preserves, and the Field Museum. Volunteers help restore special Forest Preserve sites along the Chicago and Calumet Rivers.
Friends of the Major Taylor Trail
The Friends of the Major Taylor Trail is a non-profit organization of residents of the communities surrounding the trail who are committed to the use and development of the trail. The organization is affiliated with Friends of the Parks.
Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project
The Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project conducts tours and educational events dedicated to Freedom Seekers and local abolitionists who risked everything to assist escaped slaves who traveled through the area.
The mission of the Major Taylor Cycling Club Chicago is to promote good health by supporting recreational and social cycling activities in the community. They host a variety of rides and events for all ages and skill levels.
Major Taylor Trail Keepers (MTTK)
Major Taylor Trail Keepers Chicago is a not-for-profit community organization created to improve the lives of individuals and families residing in historically underserved neighborhoods by working to make their environment and communities of residence a place that is a fun, healthy, and safe place to live, work, and play. The organization works to influence public policies, increase public awareness and understanding of community issues, and secure resources to implement improvements to the infrastructure of the community with an emphasis on public transportation – specifically bicycling, walking, parks, recreation, and economic development.
Riverdale Park District’s Goal is to provide a comprehensive array of structured programs and services for children, youth and adults that will plant seeds for and promote academic excellence, self-discipline, pride, integrity and positive behavior in home, school and community.
