The Chicago-Calumet River system is one of the most spectacular natural treasures in the Chicagoland region, but unfortunately still struggles with the stubborn problem of litter. Friends of the Chicago River is committed to eliminating litter from our beloved waterways, but we need your help. One way we are tackling the problem is through Canoe and Clean paddles where we remove litter directly from the river and its banks. We’ll provide boats, bags, gloves, and grabbers; you provide the can-do spirit!

No paddling experience necessary, all equipment is provided. Friends’ trusty canoe guides will help everyone safely load in and out of the canoes, offer paddling instruction, and answer questions about the river along the way. We recommend canoe paddlers are at least 10 years old, and river lovers younger than 10 years old are welcome to sit in the center of the canoes and enjoy the experience with their families. Trips are three hours long, rain or shine!
