Canoe and Cleanups

Get out and enjoy the Chicago River with us, and do some good. Friends of the Chicago River’s Litter Free Chicago River project is offering a fun way for the public to get involved by paddling with us in our new program, Canoe and Cleanups We provide the canoes, the equipment, and the know-how. You provide the can-do spirit. Only $10!

The Chicago River is cleaner than it has been in generations, but there is still an inordinate amount of garbage in the river. Litter is devastating to wildlife and a deterrent to people—and as development along the river continues it will only increase.

Offered only monthly, no experience is necessary, all equipment is provided. Friends’ trusty canoe guides will be there to help participants safely load in and out of the boats, offer paddling tips and answer questions about the river along the way. We recommend paddlers be eight years old and above, younger river lovers are welcome to sit in the center of the canoes and enjoy the experience with their families. Participants will need to sign a paddling waiver upon arrival.
