You are invited to join the City of Chicago and Friends of the Chicago River for an important Combined Sewer Overflow Public Notification Planning Meeting.
Meeting Details:
- Date: Wednesday, March 26
- Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
- Location: Horner Park Fieldhouse, 2741 W. Montrose Avenue, Chicago, IL 60618
- Registration: Please RSVP in advance by emailing tmurray@chicagoriver.org
Combined Sewer Overflows occur when heavy rains overwhelm the combined sewer system, causing a mix of stormwater and sewage to discharge into the river. This meeting is an opportunity to voice your thoughts on a new and improved public notification system that will keep our communities informed about when Combined Sewer Overflows happen and when it’s recommended to postpone on-the-water recreation.
Combined Sewer Overflow events negatively impact water quality and public health: a more dynamic and accessible way to let river users know when there has been a Combined Sewer Overflow is the next step in developing and supporting safe, enjoyable access to the Chicago River.
The meeting will include a presentation highlighting a proposed notification system, including discussion of proposed technology, notification locations, and when you can expect to see it on the river.
If you are unable to join us in-person, we are also hosting a virtual meeting on Wednesday, March 26, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Zoom.
We especially invite kayakers, paddleboarders, canoeists, crew teams and clubs, professional mariners, boat rental companies, property owners, neighbors, and anyone who cares about the future of the Chicago River to give us their thoughts on a new CSO public notification system. Please share this invitation with your networks.
