Friends is a grassroots organization so we rely on volunteers to help our events go smoothly and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. Volunteer event support is essential for setting up and breaking down, registration, setting up catering, wayfinding and more. To provide everyone an understanding of Friends’ work and what you can expect when volunteering with us, we are hosting orientations for event volunteers! Even if you have volunteered with us in the past, we ask everyone interested in volunteering at our events to attend this training. Minors interested in volunteering must have a parent/guardian volunteer with them.
Primary events are:
· October 1, 2026 ~ The annual Bridgehouse Museum’s Autumn Cruise, where we enjoy the beautiful Chicago River and skyline and fundraise for the outreach and education Friends’ museum provides the community.
· Late February/ early March ~ The Chicago-Calumet River Student Congress, taking place in late winter, is a free student-driven environmental conference where students share their knowledge, experiences and enthusiasm about science, nature, and climate resiliency.
· Event volunteers can also sign up to support other events or tabling opportunities as they arise.
