Champion the River for World Water Day Today

March 22, 2025 is the annual United Nations observance of World Water Day that highlights the importance of freshwater and the need to protect our water resources. At Friends of the Chicago River, our 43,000 members, volunteers, and online activists champion the protection and restoration the Chicago-Calumet River system for all people, water, and wildlife.
Here are three ways you can join us in taking action today to support clean water and a healthy river system:
- Organize a litter cleanup on the waterfront: Any person or group is welcome to check out our Litter Free Supply Station, which provides all the tools you need to host your own cleanup, from waste pickers, gloves, and more.
- Advocate for stronger water protections: Contact your state representative and ask for their support for House Bill 3278, which will ensure that plastic pellets (the raw product used to make most plastics) are defined as a pollutant to prevent them from entering our waterways. - Donate to Friends of the Chicago River: Your support helps fund critical advocacy, education, and restoration efforts that make a lasting impact.
Together, we can make the Chicago-Calumet River system cleaner and healthier. Share this with your friends to celebrate World Water Day. Take action today!
