Reduce Trash with Our Litter Free Property Guide

Friends of the Chicago River introduces an easy-to-use Litter Free Property Guide designed to help landowners better manage and reduce trash on their grounds. Drawing on Friends’ years of cleanup coordination, the guide provides practical steps for landowners to conduct a basic audit of their property, including evaluating trash and recycling containers, maintenance schedules, and overall waste volume. It also offers ideas for engaging employees in litter reduction.
The Property Guide is part of Friends’ comprehensive Litter Free Chicago-Calumet River initiative, a multi-pronged effort to reduce the amount of trash polluting our waterways. Through this initiative, Friends works with community members, businesses, and government leaders to advance strong public policy and implement effective litter-reduction strategies across the watershed.
“Trash pollution harms wildlife, damages habitat, and diminishes people’s connection to the river,” said Margaret Frisbie, executive director of Friends of the Chicago River. “By giving property owners simple, actionable steps to prevent litter, we can all be part of the solution and create a cleaner, healthier river system.”
Friends of the Chicago River thanks the Mars Wrigley Foundation for their generous support of the Property Guide.
