Invest in a River
The Colorado River was ranked number one among American Rivers’ Most Endangered Rivers for 2022, a dubious distinction shared by the Chicago River in 2011. At the time the Chicago and Calumet river system was being polluted daily by untreated sewage treatment effluent resulting in risk from pathogens and bacteria. Support from people like you allowed Friends and our Water Quality Task Force partners to spend years fighting for new water quality standards that would protect recreators, and because of you we won.

The ambient water quality of the Chicago-Calumet River system is much improved from those days but stormwater runoff, litter, and the climate crisis still plague the river and natural areas are too often fragmented and degraded. Your support today will help us help make the river a haven for people and wildlife and resilient into the future. Please donate now. Thank you.
