Quirky and Fun River Life

In early November, the Lawrence Tome band performed their last concert for 2023 on a concrete bridge pile on the Chicago River near the Belmont Avenue bridge in Chicago, demonstrating how the much the river has become a part of our community. The pop-up performance attracted several hundred spectators and was the highest-liked story in Block Club Chicago last week.

“The river is drastically different than it used to be,” said Margaret Frisbie, Friends’ executive director, who attended the concert in her off hours. “It is hard to imagine that people would have chosen to get up on Saturday morning and head to the river for anything when Friends was founded 44 year ago. We have come a long way and so many more people are onboard. It is so exciting.”
