River Reminiscent: 1982
In 1982, Friends of the Chicago River hosted the second annual RiverDesign/Chicago with over 50 architects, planners, historians, and other resource people involved in discussions and design development over a six-month period that identified the need for river-edge tourist locations and infrastructure that would make the river accessible in Chicago. These plans laid the way for the establishment of Canal Origins Park, Erie Street Park, River Park, and Chicago’s downtown riverwalk.
