Get ready to sign up for Chicago River Day

2024 Chicago River Day volunteers at the Eleanor Boathouse at Park 571 along the South Branch of the Chicago River.

Volunteer registration for the 32nd Annual Chicago River Day opens on Friday, March 24. This year, our popular spring litter cleanup and restoration event is Saturday, May 10. Chicago River Day draws thousands of individuals, families, community groups, and corporate teams to remove litter and invasive plants at more than 75 locations throughout the watershed – from Lake County to the Calumet region and southwest to Summit, Palos, and beyond.

The massive litter cleanup and restoration event also kicks off this year’s litter removal efforts under Friends’ Litter Free Chicago-Calumet River program, which includes more litter cleanup events on land and from the water.

Chicago River Day kicks off at 9 a.m., and runs to 12 noon. Afterwards, volunteers are invited to come together from 12 – 3 p.m. at Burning Bush Brewery in Chicago or Blue Island Beer Company in Blue Island to connect and swap stories from the day.

Watch an ABC 7 news story about last year’s record-breaking Chicago River Day of more than 2,300 volunteers at 87 locations making the river system litter free.
