Lend a Hand Where it's Needed Most
This Chicago River Day, Friends encourages you to lend a hand where it’s needed most.
Fifty sites are already full but we need volunteers at other key sites – we’re especially looking for volunteers at Skokie River Prairie Land and Water Reserve, Skokie River Nature Preserve, Techny Basin in Glenview, St. Paul Woods in Morton Grove, Sand Ridge Nature Center in South Holland, Alsip Boat Launch, and Kickapoo Woods in Riverdale.
With nearly 90 locations along the entire 156-mile river system, Chicago River Day brings together thousands of individuals, families, community groups, and corporate teams each spring to clean up litter and restore critical habitat. From Lake County to the Calumet region, and southwest through Summit, Palos, Lemont, and beyond, this powerful day of action showcases the collective commitment to a cleaner, healthier river system.
Sign up today for the 34th Annual Chicago River Day on Saturday, May 9 and help make a direct, positive impact on the health of the river system.
Sign up by May 1 to receive a free T-shirt
Be sure to register by May 1 to receive this year’s exclusive Chicago River Day T-shirt featuring the virile crayfish (Latin name), a native crustacean whose primary role as a “cleaner” and “architect” is vital to our river’s improving health. Learn more about the virile crayfish in the latest edition of the River Reporter.
Instead of volunteering on Chicago River Day, you can also join us at River Park to engage in river activities with groups including ChiTownBio, RiverLab, and Valaurel Studios at our Community Science Hub! Stop by any time between 9 a.m. and 12 noon at the RiverLab pavilion at River Park, 3000 W. Argyle Street on the west side of the river.
