Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance

In 2020, Friends of the Chicago River initiated the Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance to establish a forum that would result in collaboration around expanded watershed-based stormwater management using multi-benefit nature-based solutions to improve public and environmental health and build resiliency.

In 2023, the Alliance completed its first signature project, the Natural Solutions Tool which is a searchable open source data-rich map that enables users to identify priority areas where NBGI projects can happen and reveals where they would have the most impact. It details 1.4 million properties down to the parcel level over 1,300 square miles in 176 municipalities in portions of four counties. The Tool goes live to the public in March 2023.
