Start Planning Your Company’s 2025 River Action Day 

Friends’ River Action Days program provides companies with ways to give back to the community by participating in customized river-edge volunteer experiences for their employees to improve the health of the river system, and build trust and camaraderie. 

This year Friends of the Chicago River more than doubled the amount of River Action Days we host with companies with over 470 employee volunteers participating – a 170% increase of volunteers over 2023.

“As a lifelong conservationist and environmentalist, I truly appreciate the work that Friends does for our community in physically cleaning up the river and tributaries and educating folks on the importance of environmental stewardship and watersheds,” said Theresa Hyland, senior analyst, Environmental Compliance & Strategy at Invenergy, one of the many companies who participated in River Action Days this year. “An eye-opening moment for me was spending this time grooming a park area for microplastic instead of picking up traditional trash, something I had never done before in other clean-ups I have participated in.”
